What to wear: Royal Ascot

A savvy row buying guide.

As always, the enjoyment is in the detail! Vintage and tailored morning dress pieces are far superior to modern high street or hire garments. Look out for 'bespoke' features, including; canvassed construction, handmade button and lapel holes, working cuff buttons, quilted linings, pockets to tails. Therefore, the savvy course of action is to buy a vintage hand-tailored morning suit and have any necessary alterations carried out (preferably by an experienced 'old school' tailor).

250 years on the social calendar makes Royal Ascot a grand institution. Traditions upheld, pageantry galore and one of the most beautiful racecourses in the country. Dress codes depend upon the enclosure but those heading for the Royal Enclosure should pick out morning dress. To maintain sartorial standards, course stewards are dispatched to pick out miscreants who don’t quite come up to scratch. We trust that Savvy Chaps would never find themselves in such a pickle! See our guide to a 'Right Royal Ascot'
